Two mechanisms cover slow, conscious perception.

Updated: May 29, 2022

「Studying the "Study of Consciousness" (Stanislas Duanne) can further deepen your understanding of coaching theory.

I am studying to add a unique flavour to "unconscious rewriting".

This series of blog posts are my study notes. This time, the theme that follows the unconscious and conscious

I will write a "sign of consciousness".

Information that is consciously considered "current" is delayed by at least one-third of a second because the brain slowly collects information from the outside world.

This short period can reach XX seconds in cases where the input stimulus is so faint that sufficient evidence needs to be accumulated before reaching the entrance to conscious perception.

As we have already seen, being distracted by other events further delays the timing of consciousness.

This phenomenon is correct why mobile phones while driving are warned.

Even actions that appear to be reflex reactions, such as stepping on the brakes when the stop lamp of the car in front lights up, will slow down if you are concerned about other things.

We all do not fully understand the limits of our attention. We, therefore, do not correctly recognize that subjective perceptions are delayed for objective events occurring in the outside world. But that's usually not a big deal.

We can enjoy beautiful sunsets and symphonies without knowing that the corresponding visual and auditory information already reached our eyes and ears 0.5 seconds ago.

When listening to music quietly, I don't care exactly when the sound is made.

Even when it becomes necessary to act, the outside world usually changes so slowly that there is almost no problem with a delayed reaction of consciousness.

But only when you have to act "in real-time" do you realize how slow you are.
