"Abstract degree" and "superordinate concept"

Updated: May 29, 2022

First of all, I would like to say that I don't have much correct knowledge of how much the words "Abstract degree" and "superordinate concept" have different meanings in English.

Like the cliché, "Let's raise the level of abstraction!" I thought it was time to graduate.

On April 21st, I saw a tweet from coach Mino Mikako and agreed.

Since it is likely to be misunderstood if only on Twitter, let me explain more on this blog.

Mino Mikako Coach's Tweet

"The core concept of coaching, the level of abstraction. We tend to focus only on raising the level of abstraction, but the important thing is to increase abstraction intentionally! It is overlooked that it is only learning like a textbook. An important point! Please listen. "

I used to explain it in Kaizen with the word "superordinate concept".

For example, in physical space = manufacturing, there is one finding that "always doing things one by one in order can prevent leftovers."

In the Kaizen case report, it is reported that "the order of work was decided and put into the standard place".

It is essential to abstract this, look at it from a higher-level concept, and "get a firm grasp of the success factors and replace them with your own."

Even if I tell the designer = the existence of the information space, it will return, "My job is not that simple. (Don't make a fool of yourself!)".

However, when I asked him about the actual situation, he said, "I have never thought about the order in which I would write the drawings."

I asked, "I thought I was deceived and decided the order."

When I asked him a few days later,

"I picked up the phone on the way, talked to him, and then started thinking, 'How far have you been?' I've found it reasonably efficient, so I'm already in the habit. "

I will get the following answer.

As a result, the designer understands the superordinate concept, but I think this is what it means to look at things at a higher level of abstraction.

I'm not just the cliché "Let's raise the level of abstraction."

"Sometimes it's important to be able to lower the level of abstraction and explain at the same level as the other person's eyes at that time."

I haven't had a detailed discussion with her, but I think coach Mino Mikako has the same idea.

Dr Tomabechi's book explains "abstraction" from various angles, so I would like to share some of them.

The degree of abstraction is "the height of the viewpoint in the information space". It can be rephrased as "the height of the dimension". Various concepts create the information space in our brains and minds. From "How to Make a Super Sleeping Brain That Makes Your Head 10 Times Better" (written by Hideto Tomabechi)

Ultimately, humans need to be happy when viewed from a more abstract and broader perspective, and the simplest way to be happy is to eliminate suffering. Human suffering can be said to be the four inevitable sufferings of Buddha, "life and death."

When they found all the illusions created by the function, the suffering of life, illness and death disappeared at that moment.

"How to use the" brainpower "of Dr Tomabechi" (written by Hideto Tomabechi)

It is the ability that humankind has had from the beginning. Therefore, there is no need to think about how to control it. If you can raise the level of abstraction and introspectively examine it, you can put yourself within your constraints. From "How to Wash the Brain and Mind Forest2545 Shinsho" (written by Hideto Tomabechi)

We can do the task of collecting irrelevant things and can find relevance only by climbing the steps of abstraction. The task of climbing this level of abstraction seems to be something that only humans can do so far. From "Invitation to Cognitive Science" (written by Hideto Tomabechi)

Even if I think I'm free, I'm bound by people at that level in terms of abstraction. But I can't see it. If you're on the same level, you'll see a binding to yourself, and you'll be able to think of ways to get rid of it. But if you've bound the next level up, you know how to escape and that you're bound. From "A great leader has a different" brain " (written by Hideto Tomabechi)

With a great deal of knowledge, the moment will come when the abstraction of human thinking will rise. The same is true for sports and study. If you practice and learn a lot, you will suddenly rise. "Good habits change your brain. You can get all your health, work, money, and IQ! (Written by Hideto Tomabechi)

I told him, "I can't be happy as long as I say". " You cannot reach your true dreams or happiness if you stay in your shell. Happiness is a high level of abstraction, so you have to look at things from a broad perspective. Things like "dream", "happiness", and "satisfaction" can be enlarged by thinking abstractly. From "100 Words of Great People Who Change Yourself, Dr Tomabechi-style Quotations Utilization TAC Publishing" (written by Hideto Tomabechi)

Karl Marx examined the system of capitalism, uncovered its problems, and created communism as a new economic system (although he completed the theory of communism only in Marx's mind and in the real world.

Communist politicians couldn't raise the level of abstraction to the level of Marx, so it eventually went bankrupt). From "Successful Techniques of Super-Internet Society" (written by Hideto Tomabechi)

The degree of abstraction is a fundamental concept that can be the basis of the coaching world.

At this point, thinking with a high degree of abstraction is an act that only humankind can do.

In product development, collecting a lot of helpful information, climbing the steps of abstraction and integrating it, and creating the concept of the product is the most crucial role of the development project leader.

Here, the ability to integrate is called "gestalt".

As I have written many times on other blogs, developing gestalt abilities leads to the essential qualities of a project leader.

And make sure that the concept is a product. It is the role of the project leader to see if the customer is satisfied (in terms of quality, quantity, and cost).

To everyone who is about to launch a project

We will continue to send this message repeatedly, so let's work together to accomplish the task.
