Matsuyama won the first Japanese championship in the 2021 Masters.
It seems that the coach's support was behind the victory.
I was watching this year's Masters on TV.
I felt that "Matsuyama-Kun, your expression is calm."
Then I thought, "Isn't there a coach at last?", So I searched online.
Sure enough, I learned that Hidenori Mezawa joined the team.
Before reading this article (why Hidenori Mezawa was welcomed to Team Matsuyama), I imagined having a professional coach (Tomabechi style / Thai style) instead of a swing coach.
Coach Mezawa's profile says, "I went to the United States after graduating from university and obtained TPI (Titlist Performance Institute) level 3 of the American lesson professional qualification, which is only a few people in Japan." He was a so-called swing coach.
I remember that Tommy Nakajima advised in an interview with Matsuyama in a TV broadcast a few years ago that he should have a coach soon.
The victory was decided, and it was agreed that "Hideki Matsuyama Masters conquest, Tommy Nakajima and other professionals crying ⇒ people crying one after another."
Speaking of Nakajima Pro, he is active overseas, including the Masters, but I personally sometimes think of it immediately.
Do you know "Tommy's Banker"?
Not only in the St Andrews area but also on the other side of the Scottish West Coast, when I find myself Japanese, local golfers seem to associate "Tommy's Banker".
In St Andrews, I feel that another pair of parents and children, Tom Morris, still emits an aura like the Lord of the square. But, since it is the same Tommi, Mr Nakajima's name recognition has increased locally.
A local golfer who rounded together at St Andrew's New Course in Scotland (pictured below) shouted "Tommy Nakajima !!" when he saw me struggling in a bunker. That's how famous it was in Ghent, but Nakajima must have been frustrated.
Scotland and Georgia are in different places, but Japanese people have made various histories worldwide to challenge golf.
Let's get back to Matsuyama Pro.
Matsuyama has won the championship with a new system by adding a new swing coach to the caddy, trainer, and interpreter team Matsuyama.
Caddy Hayato-Kun also got a lot of attention worldwide when he returned the pin at No. 18 and bowed to the course. I hear that Pro Matsuyama evaluates that "the sensuous part also gives me feedback."
Matsuyama professional also coaches Mezawa.
He left a comment saying, "He gave me various opinions about my discoveries. I was able to play with a different feeling than before."
I generally feel the warmth and calmness of the mindset in this team.
Focusing on the world of coaching, Matsuyama has been a "self-coach" until now, but this is the first time he has had a coach. Of course, I think that the technical support was also adequate, but I felt that the effect of personal coaching was excellent.
The core part of coaching, setting goals and increasing the efficacy (self-evaluation of self-ability) to achieve the goals, is possible, although self-coaching may take some time. But having a coach (a coach with a good knowledge of cognitive science) nearby will speed things up.
Mr Aoyama, a master coach of Tomabechi style, has published about self-coaching and personal coaching on YOUTUBE, so please look.
